Apart from the Xpresso setups I have made use of the Custom User-Data Controls (mainly sliders and check boxes). Simple put: this feature rocks in Cinema4D, making it a pleasure the control of every aspect in your project.
One of the more productive things is that we can define different Xpresso setups (Tags) to control the same parts, and then we can toggle between manual or automatic (procedural) behaviors, preserving their corresponding animation channels and velocity curves.
